A look at the lives of the nine men from Wainfleet Township who perished in World War I.
Drawing from World War I personnel records, as well as birth, death, marriage, and census records, this presentation offers a portrait of each of the nine young men of Wainfleet Township who gave their lives in the service of their country during the Great War.
Bio of Janet Hodgkins, UE
• Grew up in Wainfleet Township where she and her husband raised their two sons and where she still resides on part of her grandparents’ farm.
• Graduated from McMaster University with a B.A. in Honours History.
• Graduated from the University of Western Ontario with an M.L.S. (Master of Library Science)
• Had a career at the Welland Public Library as Children’s Librarian where she told lots of stories.
• Is a Director of the Colonel John Butler (Niagara) Branch of the United Empire Loyalists’ Association of Canada, and is proud to claim 5 UEL ancestors and 6 ancestors who served in the War of 1812.
• Has been President of the Wainfleet Historical Society for over 10 years.
• Enjoys genealogy (of course), sewing (including her own and her husband’s historic period attire), baking (with an interest in culinary history), and reading (often historical fiction and classic novels).
